Attend our eight-session Zoom course which aims to provide you with a thorough understanding of Governance and Compliance in Wales, with a focus on the function of Company Secretary and Governance Teams and how these roles can be developed to further benefit organisations.
The course is aimed at Governance Practitioners, Governance Officers, Company Secretaries, Compliance Officers and anyone else with a responsibility for governance.
Each session will include peer discussions, practical applications and Q&As, as well as some reflection and preparation between sessions. You can expect guest speakers throughout the course who will join some sessions to share their expertise and experiences on different topics.

Learning Outcomes
- Understand the core functions of the Board, its Committees, the Company Secretary and the Governance team, in theory and in practice within your organisation (Session 1)
- An understanding the role of the Board in setting the strategy of the organisation and leading the organisation, and how the Board works with the Executive. (Session 2)
- An understanding of effective governance, what it is, and what it is not (Session 2)
- Understand the legal framework and common codes used by Housing Associations in Wales. (Session 3).
- An understanding of the purpose of the Welsh Government as Regulator of Social Housing in Wales, the compliance requirements and the role of the governance function in supporting compliance activities. We hope to be talking to someone from the regulation team during this session (Session 4)
- An understanding of the Board’s role in respect of Risk and Assurance, the difference between assurance and reassurance and how the governance function can support effective risk and assurance management. (Session 5)
- Understand how to equip your organisation with the governance toolkit needed to reflect statutory and regulatory requirements and meet the needs of your organisation – including terms of reference and delegated authorities (Session 6)
- How to set an annual cycle of governance appropriate for your organisation (Session 6)
- How to ensure your Board has sight of stakeholder views (Session 7)
- An opportunity to reflect on your learning and to consider how you will put it into practice in your own organisation.
