Tenant Involvement in Governance
Tenant involvement that works is an integral part of good governance. The NHF’s Together with Tenants charter expects boards “to demonstrate that they value the voice and experience of tenants and residents, and use this insight to inform decision making”. Regulatory Standards in Wales require evidence that tenants are effectively involved in strategic decision making and shaping services; “The Right Stuff: Hearing the Tenant Voice” (2019) from RBW focuses on hearing the tenant voice as a key part of board assurance arrangements.
• How are you responding to this challenge? How can you ensure your approach to tenant involvement in governance is effective?
• What can be learnt from best practice elsewhere?
• What are the best ways of achieving the outcomes you want from involving tenants in governance?
We have worked in partnership with housing providers across England and Wales to improve how they listen to the tenant’s voice so that:
• Tenants influence decision making on strategic objectives and the allocation of resources
• The culture and values throughout the organisation are supporting effective tenant involvement
• Tenants’ voices shape policies on customer facing services and their experiences of services are listened to, acted upon and are valued for learning
• Trust is built between the Board and Tenants based on good communication, honest dialogue and transparency.
We can help you review your tenant involvement, improve your approach and build capacity among your tenant population. Click here for further information.
